In an effort to make the UK immigration process more secure, the British government is introducing several changes to the process that must be followed when individuals apply for a spouse visa, fiancee visa, or partner visa for entry into the UK.
Those applying for UK settlement visas are now required to provide biometric data, including fingerscans and a digital photograph. This information will be required in addition to any that is requested on the UK visa application form.
These changes are effective as of November in Canada, and will affect all individuals applying for a UK settlement visa. Those residing in Canada who wish to apply for any type of visa, including those that fall under the family visa category, will now be required to complete the required application forms and pay any fees online.
In addition, they must provide the required biometric information by visiting a UK visa application center (VAC). Due to the fact that everyone is now required to visit a UK visa application center in person as part of the settlement visa process, several new centers will be opening in the near future.
Please note that visa application centers will be opening in Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, Ottawa, and Halifax. Those applying for a UK visa from within Canada should be prepared to visit one of these locations as part of the settlement visa process. Applications will still continue to be processed at British Embassies and High Commissions.
