New procedure for applying for a UK settlement visa from Ukraine
If you are applying for a UK settlement fiancee or marriage visa from Ukraine then it is important to note that the application process has changed as of 16th July 2012. The first major change is that all applications for UK family and partner visa immigration will be processed at the UK Border Agency (UKBA) hub in Warsaw. The British Consulate in Kyiv is no longer involved in the decision-making process.
It is also worth noting that some people may have had problems with their applications between the 9th and the 12th July. This was due to changes to the IT system while these changes were taking place. This may mean some delays so it is important to check this in order to ensure your application has been properly processed.
In other respects applying for a UK settlement visa from Ukraine will remain the same. Those seeking to obtain a fiancee, partner or marriage visa will still be able to apply online via the UK Border Agency (UKBA) website. This will allow visa applicants to book an appointment and provide relevant information to support their UK settlement visa application. This includes details such as the actual application form, passport and any other documentation that may be necessary. Applicants will also be expected to provide biometric details and the necessary processing fee should be paid to the UK visa application centre (VAC) in Kyiv.
Once the documentation has been submitted in Kyiv it is then transferred via a secure courier to the UKBA Warsaw regional hub and this is where the examining Entry Clearance Officers (ECO) will decide if your UK settlement visa application is valid. Once this has been determined your passport and other documents will be sent back via courier to Kyiv where you can collect them.
It is important to note that there are no additional charges involved with UK family immigration or other applications from Ukraine. The UK Border Agency has set targets to process 90% of non settlement immigration requests no later than 15 days after the documentation has been submitted in Kyiv. Part of the reason for this increased efficiency is that fewer regional hubs have made it easier and more flexible for people wanting to travel to the UK, especially during peak times such as the summer holidays.
The UK Border Agency advises that people planning to travel to the UK from Ukraine organise their applications well in advance of their planned arrival. You can submit documentation up to three months before you are due to travel.
